Thank you for writing this! I've worked with police quite a bit, and despite some truly awesome people in uniform I've never ceased to be horrified by the institutionalized violence and entitlement entrenched in police culture. It's completely pervasive. I remember being both proud and horrified when a queer attendee at Kumoricon came to our security center to report a violent ex violating a restraining order, because she was certain that she'd receive better treatment from our security volunteers than the Portland PD. When we did have to bring the cops in, the contempt and dismissiveness was palpable, even at me, and as a cis white male in a position of nominal authority I was as close to "their kind" as you can get without wearing a badge. I was leveraging my privilege for all it was worth, and I can't imagine voluntarily facing police, even in a situation that wasn't ostensibly confrontational, without it. I am honestly awed by the courage you showed! To know that you were facing the intersection of misogyny, imperialism, and naked lust for power, and to go ahead with your action ANYWAY, took more resolve than I ever expect to have.
